A VBAC after 2 c-sections story.
I was so excited for Rafaela’s birth, it would be my first time documenting a VBAC, and she hired a Doula I’d been wanting to work with for so long!
I joined them at Pomerado Hospital in the early morning hours of September 23rd, 2015. Rafaela was experiencing a lot of back labor, and wanted to move around to help alleviate the discomfort. We even got to go outside in to the foggy morning, while Kelly stayed close to Rafaela in case she was needed. I love witnessing how Doulas hold space for their clients. In fact, one of my favorite things about Doulas is their quiet strength, and their calm energy helps keep ME calm as well.
After getting some much needed rest, Rafaela got her VBAC – Zara was born at 5.44pm, and you could definitely feel the energy of triumph in the room! As I was busy photographing the new arrival, when Dr Cobb tapped me on the shoulder and said “You might want to get a shot of this”, pointing at the TRUE KNOT in Zara’s umbilical cord. I’d never seen one before, and was so thankful Dr Cobb made me aware of it.
Thank you, Rafaela and Joao, for allowing me to be part of your birth team!
