The birth of Zara | San Diego Birth Photographer

A VBAC after 2 c-sections story.
I was so excited for Rafaela’s birth, it would be my first time documenting a VBAC, and she hired a Doula I’d been wanting to work with for so long!
I joined them at Pomerado Hospital in the early morning hours of September 23rd, 2015. Rafaela was experiencing a lot of back labor, and wanted to move around to help alleviate the discomfort. We even got to go outside in to the foggy morning, while Kelly stayed close to Rafaela in case she was needed. I love witnessing how Doulas hold space for their clients. In fact, one of my favorite things about Doulas is their quiet strength, and their calm energy helps keep ME calm as well.
After getting some much needed rest, Rafaela got her VBAC – Zara was born at 5.44pm, and you could definitely feel the energy of triumph in the room! As I was busy photographing the new arrival, when Dr Cobb tapped me on the shoulder and said “You might want to get a shot of this”, pointing at the TRUE KNOT in Zara’s umbilical cord. I’d never seen one before, and was so thankful Dr Cobb made me aware of it.
Thank you, Rafaela and Joao, for allowing me to be part of your birth team!

The birth of Wesley | San Diego Birth Photographer

Baby Wesley made his way earthside to join his 3 siblings, on July 6th, 2015, at 11.15pm.
Maggie and I met when we both attended the labor and birth of a mutual friend, it turned out Maggie was already pregnant with Wesley but didn’t know it yet! For Wesley’s birth, I joined Maggie and her family soon after she called, since she’d told me she has fast labors. Turns out, she wasn’t kidding. Wesley was in quite a hurry to be born, and decided to make his entrance in the tiny bathroom.
Thank you, Maggie and Chris, for allowing me to witness your journey!

The birth of Coral | San Diego Birth Photographer

Baby Coral arrived earthside on May 20th, 2015. Getting to witness her parents’ love and dedication to each other, was so beautiful. Mama got additional support from her best friend, who also shot a lot video, and her amazing doula, Debbie Shelton.
After the transfer to Grossmont Hospital, Coral gave everyone a bit of a scare with her low heart rate, but then she was born safely in to the hands of Mom and Dad, who brought her up to meet them. The joy and excitement in the room was palpable, Coral was longed for and is very much loved!
Thank you, Natalie and Philip, for allowing to be part of your birth team, and getting to witness your amazing journey!
