Welcome home, Ricky | San Diego Birth Photographer

Ricky, Jaime and their two adorable kids, came to me a few years ago for a family session, referred by my good friend and fellow photographer Thereasa Gwinn Photography. Ricky is a huge Star Wars fan, so naturally their son it too. We had so much fun incorporating a light saber fight scene in to their session!

When it came time to finding a photographer to document Ricky’s homecoming, Jaime called me months ago to make sure I’d be available. On May 25th, 2012, Ricky was finally reunited with his wife and kids, after his 7 month deployment to Afghanistan.

As we waited for everyone to exit the buses, we didn’t notice him until he was right in front of us! The kids got the first hugs, but then Jaime’s arms found her husband’s and their hug almost made me cry! I had a job to do, so I choked back the tears and went about documenting those first moments back together. After a few minutes, Jaime pointed to me and told Ricky to see who was actually taking the pictures. His smile, as he realized it was me, warmed my heart! He gave me the biggest hug and said he was so glad it was me who was taking their reunion pictures!

I am posting this entry at the end of Memorial Day, as a THANK YOU to those who have served, continue to serve, and to those who paid the ultimate price.

Ricky and Jaime, thank you for allowing me to witness this special time in your lives!

Welcome home, Reid! | San Diego Birth Photographer

What do you do when a friend calls and asks for your help? You jump in the car at midnight, and drive to Camp Pendleton to photograph her husband’s homecoming, at 2am!

Well, it didn’t happen quite that sudden, but I did only have about 36 hours notice for Reid’s homecoming. Sarah had been unable to find another photographer for her husband’s return, from being deployed in Afghanistan for 7 months. During his absence, Baby Curtis had been born and was now just over 3 months old. He was about meet his Daddy for the first time, and Reid was about be reunited with his family! I was moved and tremendously honored to be there to capture it all.

Sarah, thank you for calling me and allowing me to be part of another important event in your life. I wish I could come to Japan with you to document your next Baby’s arrival! I will miss your beautiful smile and bubbly personality…

Josiah’s Fresh Baby Session | San Diego Birth Photographer

Fresh Baby Session is a one hour documentary style newborn session, taken within 48 hours of your baby’s birth, at the hospital, your home or birth center.

Remember Josiah’s Birth Story? This little guy was born in the early morning hours of April 28th, and two days later I got to photograph him with his family in a relaxed home setting for a Fresh Baby session.

I followed David, Eleanor and their kids around and simply documented their time together. From having Daddy duty (David doing his daughter’s hair), snuggling on the bed as a family of 5, the kids getting to know their brother, to Eleanor relaxing and playing with her youngest son, this was one of the most amazing and fun sessions I’ve ever done.
